I recently had to reinstall SQL server, and so here's what you need to rememeber.
Answer
After you've installed SQL Server:
- Confirm you can connect with your windows auth.
- Add a new user
- username:

- Give the user role 'sysadmin'
- Go into properties for the SQL service and find Security Tab
- Enable SQL Auth/windows auth.
- Right click the server and restart it.
- Import your databases like normal
