Content Type Guide

Content Type Guides typically include the following sections:

  • Description - Broad, general description of the content type and what it's typically used for.
  • Questions, Considerations, Caveats - A list of items to consider, questions to ask, things to know or think about when developing this content type.
  • Schema / Metadata - Notes about SEO data structures, such as meta tags and Schema properties.
  • Properties - A list of properties one should generally include on this content type, plus any notes or other properties one might commonly find.
  • Behaviors - Notes about behavior for this content type, what happens when particular actions are taken, etc.
  • Taxonomy - If the content type uses categories or tags, notes about the usage and expectations around categories / tags.
  • Variations - Notes about variations of this content type one might find, how this content type may different from one install to another
  • Additional Documentation - Links to any additional documentation, such as example implementations, example wireframes, other documentation related to this content type
  • Common Aliases - List of common names and aliases this content type might be found under. For example: General Pages vs. Generic Page vs. Standard page, etc.
  • Partial and Alternate Views - Any alternate views that content type might have (such as search results, featured block, featured article, etc)
  • Other - Anything else that needs to be included. Fill out the "Other Type" field in these cases.
